CREATING AN IBIZAN INSPIRED HAVEN IN MY SUBURBAN GARDEN

Out of everywhere I’ve visited and lived, Ibiza is by far my favourite place. It’s where I married my husband, and if I won the lottery its where I’d move to tomorrow. This little Island in the Mediterranean has my heart, which is why I’m wanting to recreate some of that Ibizan magic right outside my back door.

So here are the elements I’m including to bring Ibiza into my suburban garden in Brisbane.

Ibiza Element #1 – Bamboo Roof
Although not the original roof we had planned, it was a happy accident that we ended up with one as it really sets the tone and gives the space a relaxed but grown up holiday vibe.

Ibiza Element #2 – Crazy Pave!
Adding this flooring will give a rustic, relaxed and somewhat retro vibe to the space. Needless to say I cannot wait to lay these tiles! We currently have two different concrete floors, so once these tiles go down its going to give a seamlessness to the entertainment area. Plus it will cement, pun intended ;-), the Ibizian look we’re going for.

Ibiza Element #3 – Finca Kitchen
With the BBQ/outdoor kitchen area we are planning on building open white rendered shelving, characteristic of an old Spanish finca. I love this simple and classic nod to the Mediterranean, plus those clean lines give me all the feels!

Ibiza Element #4 – Mediterranean Planting
The planting will actually be predominantly tropical as I just love the architecture and structure of these plants, but that doesn’t mean I won’t be incorporating a few Mediterranean plants too.

I’m still pretty new to this whole gardening thing so we’ll see what will actually survive, but to add a bit of the Ibizan vibe to this garden I’ve planted; bougainvillea, dwarf oleander, star jasmine and a Tahitian lime tree. I definitely want to include a couple of cacti and would love to add either an olive tree or a weeping mulberry in a pot, but they’re not quite in the budget at the moment so I’ll have to wait to add them.

Ibiza Element #5 – Furniture
I plan to mix some rustic elements with modern to strike a balance in bringing the modern and Ibizan/Spanish style together; a rustic table with modern chairs, some modern plastic seating with a more traditional outdoor sofa….

I also found this great coffee table on Facebook Marketplace with a tiled top which has a retro/Spanish vibe that I’ve refurbished to give it a fresh look.

I think the important thing to remember is that I’m not trying to recreate a replica of Ibiza in my back garden, its inspired by it. So its all about creating a balance between the Ibizan and modern elements, but I’m pretty excited to bring a little bit of Ibiza into this garden.
