HOW TO MAKE A CLOUD & STAR CENTREPIECE

I knew I wanted to create some kind of centrepiece for the food table at my daughters first birthday party, and with the theme ‘Dream Big Little One’ chosen, I knew as soon as I saw this image on Pinterest that I’d found my inspiration. So I set about recreating my own version of it, and now I’m sharing that with you…

STEP 1
I had originally planned on creating the stars by cutting them out from glitter paper and gluing them to kebab sticks, but when I spotted these wooden wands from Kmart, I decided spray painting these would work much better.

I firstly taped off the stems of the wands as I wanted to keep them wooden, but feel free to spray paint the whole thing if that’s the look you want. Then apply a few light coats of spray paint to the stars until you’re happy with how they look. This is the spray paint I used, both bought from Bunnings.

STEP 2
Use an off cut of wood or buy a small plank and cut to size. Then drill holes the same size as the star stems.

Next, decide on what heights you want each star to be and trim the stems using a saw.

STEP 3
Either buy a cheap pillow with a polyester filling or use an old one you already own, cut open the lining and voilĂ , you’ve got your clouds, it really is as easy as that.

It’s then a case of positioning them around your stars ensuring you cover the base. I found the bigger pieces worked much better and I used the little bits to stuff into any gaps.

Don’t spend too long perfecting it, just get it roughly into shape, unless you don’t plan on adding LED (see step 4), then spend the time getting your cloud looking how you want it.

STEP 4
If you want to add something extra, then I’d definitely suggest adding some battery operated LED lights. I already owned these as part of my Christmas stash, and adding them to the cloud took it to another level and made they whole thing more dramatic.

With this you want to completely hide the LED, but not bury it under too much stuffing.

Once I had all the bits this centrepiece took about 5 minutes to put together, it was super easy and the end result is so impactful, it was a definite conversation starter at the party. So I’d definitely recommend doing this for any twinkle, twinkle little star, dream themed or NYE parties you’re planning.
