If you read our 2021 project list, you’ll have noticed that we’ve significantly veered off course, and that our bathroom wasn’t even on the list! Haha.
But taking one look at our bathroom might give you some idea as to why we hastily added it to the list…. but really it came down to having a serious chat about our future, and how long we see ourselves living in this house; ultimately deciding that this isn’t our forever home.
So a full bathroom renovation isn’t worth the money or effort, instead we’re going to make the most of what we’ve got with the following plans.
NEW VANITY & SPLASH BACK
Our current vanity is not only ugly, weirdly low and peach, but it really dates the bathroom, so the upgrade to a new vanity and sink is a must to really lift this room and help it feel more modern.
As we’re replacing old for new and not changing the floor we had to choose one that would go over the current ones footprint. After narrowing it down to a few we decided on this one from Bunnings (although the basin we went with is slightly different to the one in this picture).
We will also need to replace the back splash as it’ll also need to be removed, and we’re replacing it with a blue agrestic subway tile I’ve sourced from Facebook Marketplace. As the white tiles are painted I feel its better to go with something completely different rather than trying to match, plus it’ll add a splash of colour and interest.
PAINT
Its probably a given that we’ll be repainting this room, but its not just the walls and ceiling that are getting painted; the tiles will get a fresh coat of paint too. We’d previously painted the tiles but they’ve really yellowed since (as you can see from the picture below), so are in need of a repaint.
NEW CHROME FITTINGS
Apart from the bath tap and shower mixer, everything else is being replaced with new chrome fittings that include; sink mixer, shower head, toilet roll holder and towel rail.
I highly recommend replacing whatever fittings you can if you’re planning your own bathroom facelift. By simply having a better quality toilet roll holder and towel rail it can really lift a space while also making it a much better user experience.
STYLING
It goes without saying that I’ll be styling this room up once all the other work is done (or as soon as the vanity is in, haha). You know I can’t wait!
As this isn’t a full renovation there are a couple of items that will remain in the room; our peach bath and floor tiles. So to bring some warmer tones into the decor I’m using a white for the walls that has some warmth to it and have chosen items with a warmer tone, like this wooden mirror, hanging baskets and plants.
FLOOR UPGRADE
Unfortunately I can’t change the floor, but I can brighten it up by cleaning the grout and using a white grout stain.
I’m slightly ashamed I haven’t done this before now because its in serious need of a clean (I’m not sure its ever been done), but I’m excited to see how this turns out. Will it feel like a new floor? I’m hoping so!
That’s all our plans, and it goes without saying that I’m excited for this one!
