Before I get to our pink walls I’ve got to take you on a bit of a history lesson. Two years ago when we moved into this house we painted everything, including our bedroom, white. The yellowy/cream walls and rental vibe needed to go!

We also demolished the built-in wardrobe in our master as it completely dominated the room, you’d open the bedroom door and it was right there. It was a great size but its basic setup of a single rail and shelf actually made it a huge space waster. Removing it has completely opened up the space.

So with a fresh coat of paint, new carpet, bedding, and curtains hung, the room actually felt pretty good for a while, but it was a basic white and grey bedroom and it lacked any kind of character or personality. It served a purpose and was definitely an upgrade but still not a space for us to call our own.

Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago when Darren had some time off AND the motivation to do it asked “So what colour are we painting this room then?”. I hadn’t actually made a decision on paint colour. Having recently moved the teal curtains from the living room into this space and knowing I’d some new teal bedding on the way, I pulled out the fan decks and set about deciding on a colour.

Two factors were at play, my new love of dark interiors and my husband’s lack of enthusiasm for a dark bedroom. I originally wanted to go for teal as I loved the idea of layering this intense colour on top of each other, but Darren wasn’t on board with this idea and as it’s his room too I can’t completely disregard his wishes, haha.

So how do I create the dark and moody vibe I want, but with a colour that wouldn’t feel dark?

Pink!

Pink and teal work so well together, I love the contrast of this colour combination. I was actually going to implement it into the scheme with the bedding, not the walls. So with this change of direction it was time to get the fandecks out and buy some sample pots.

As soon as I saw the first sample go up I knew we were on the right track, but this pink was too pink and bright. I knew for this room to have the feel I wanted it needed to be a dirty, muddy pink. So we went for a darker pink with a deeper tone for sample pot number two, and we hit the winner!
