My daughter Mia turned 3 in March and is still in a cot. She’d be more than happy to stay in it, but there’s another little lady rapidly outgrowing her bassinet. So the decision has been made and we’re doing it, Mia’s getting a big girl bed! But which one…

I had originally planned on getting her this extendable one from Ikea. I think its the sweetest little girls bed (especially in it’s smallest size), but she’s a lot older than I thought she’d be to make this transition, so I think a proper single bed would be a better option.

So the hunt begins, and just narrowing down what type of bed I wanted took a lot more research than I was anticipating. Do I want a metal framed bed, a bed with built in storage, upholstered, what colour and price? What is the theme/design for this room, will the bed match?

After a lot of Googling and Pinteresting I finally decided I wanted a white upholstered bed frame, which unfortunately doesn’t seem to exist. The closet I found was this one from Fantastic Furniture, but I disliked the dark feet and that the headboard goes to the ground.

Just when I thought I’d moved forward it was 2 steps back, so I surrendered and started to looked into other non white upholstered bed options, and there were a couple of contenders:

But I still wasn’t sold, these beds didn’t have the feel I wanted. The bed is the main feature of any bedroom and these alternatives felt like too much of a compromise.

So I was pretty close to getting a ‘that’ll do for now option’:

And then, when I was about to give up this pink metal bed appeared from the most unlikely of places, catch.com.au, and it was love at first sight.

I love the traditional style frame but with the fun modern pop of pink. Plus my pink obsessed daughter will love it, and its perfect for the rainbow theme we’re doing in her room. In fact its made the whole room and theme come together. I’m so glad I didn’t compromise and kept searching, now I’m just excited to see it in the room!

*The Akuna metal bed has now sold out on catch.com but I found another stockist of it here.
